Why the Daily Mail is so dangerous

Does ideology trump facts? Studies say it often does

This is quite an interesting piece of research. Things are different in the US. Roughly speaking, their television news is more biased than ours but their print media is more balanced.

Still, it’s interesting to see so clearly the effect of ideology on the perception of facts. I’m always amazed and embarrassed by the xenophobic right wing ideology that dominates the BBC’s Have Your Say feature. I don’t know anybody who holds the views generally represented there but the Daily Mail voice comes through loud and clear back through the BBC. It would be interesting to see this kind of research extend to HYS. And Guardian readers, of course.
