The first day of the rest of the year

The glorious 14th. A-Level results are out today and there’s the usual press coverage about standards. For us, it marks the start of Clearing. This isn’t such a massive operation as it once was – we now recruit most students through the normal UCAS route but there’s still a faint glow of excitement as we go over the numbers. It’s a bit more complicated this year as the data is all organised according to the old School of Media, Art and Design structure and not the new divisional structures. The numbers have to be disaggregated to see what the implications are for the new divisions. Overall, they seem ok at this stage but nothing counts until the HESA return in the autumn.

I’m going into Luton today to see what’s happening. My official clearing sessions are on Saturday and Sunday but it’ll be worth having a look at how things are going on the first day.
