We’re back from holiday now. Had a great time although it wasn’t without its moments. The flight out was diverted from Rijeka to Zagreb which meant a three hour coach journey before we even started the transfer to Rabac. Travelsphere were excellent once they got control though. Croatian Airlines were hopeless.

We spent a lot of the time in and around Rabac walking and exploring the coastline and footpaths. The boys enjoyed the beach and the pool. We did a day trip round Istria visiting Pula, Rovinj and Poreč. Balkan history and culture is complicated and it was good to learn something about the place.

We also did a trip into Slovenia to visit the Postojna Caves and the Lipica Stud Farm (the original breeders of Lipizzaner horses). The caves were amazing (the photos don’t really do justice to the scale of the place) although the tour parties were too large and we couldn’t hear the guide very well. The Lipizzaners did a dressage display which was excellent and then we toured round the stables. A great day although I don’t want to see the inside of a coach again for a while.

The flight back was much better than going out and although it was an early start we were back home by lunchtime.
So, here are the photos on Flickr…
